FLIGHT MANUAL — DEEP DIVE

A personal knowledge management system — a 'second brain' — was built to capture, organise, and retrieve the working knowledge accumulated across engagements, research, and professional development. The system addresses a common problem: knowledge that is acquired but not retrievable is knowledge that cannot be applied.

The architecture follows a capture-organise-distill-express cycle. Notes are captured quickly in a daily log, then organised into a structured knowledge base using a combination of tags and a hierarchical folder system. Periodic review distils the accumulated notes into refined, reusable knowledge objects.

The system integrates with the tools already in use — the note-taking app, the task manager, the reference manager — rather than requiring a separate platform. The knowledge base is searchable, cross-referenced, and designed to surface relevant prior work when a new engagement raises a similar issue.

The result is a compounding asset: every engagement enriches the knowledge base, and every future engagement benefits from the accumulated context. The system turns experience into a resource rather than a byproduct.
